How
to get there
A number of airlines fly into Langkawi on a regular basis. Malaysia
Airlines, Air Asia, and
Silk Air.
Passenger
ferry services depart
from Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah on the mainland, Penang Island
and Satun in Thailand and visit the island regularly every day.
What to wear
With daytime temperatures ranging from 33°c down to 20°c
in the evening, light clothes are all that is needed. Late afternoon
rains sometimes arrive, but are usually quite short and sharp.
Where to stay
Langkawi has a full range of accommodation to suit every pocket,
from first class hotels to budget chalets. The best selection
of places to stay can be found at the popular Cenang and Tengah
beaches.
When to visit
It is fine to visit Langawi at any time of year, but during the
monsoon season from June to October there can obviously be rainy
days. We would suggest the first two weeks of December is the
absolute best period to visit, just before the rice harvest and
with clear sunny days.
Try to avoid the main Malaysian
public holidays when the ferry service and hotels can become
very busy. If you must visit during these periods try to book
your accommodation well in advance.
Getting around
For those wishing to view the places of interest, most hotels
and chalets organize half-day and full day tours. If you would
like to hire a car or motorcycle and drive yourself, there are
vehicle rental companies at the airport and throughout the island.
Be careful to check the rental price and roadworthyness of your
transport before booking.
It is easy to drive everywhere, but if you are bike riding during
the heat of the day be careful of the very hot sun, just 20 minutes
riding can be enough to burn if you are not protected. Helmets
are compulsory and it is sensible to wear trainers and not flip-flops
whilst riding.
Your home country driving licence should be sufficiant in most
cases, although this cannot be guaranteed. An international licence
is perfect.
Enjoy your holiday.
